A week to celebrate all things great about our beloved Afternoon Tea, after all what’s not to love about a selection of delicious fresh sandwiches and a tasty array of cakes and scones- all washed down with lots of freshly brewed tea…or even a glass of fizz. In today’s world, Afternoon Tea is an occasion as opposed to just ‘tea and cake’, it’s now so much more.
Afternoon Tea was introduced to society by Anna Russell, Duchess of Bedford in the 1830’s, it was made into a formal social occasion, as result of the evening meals becoming later in the day and therefore Afternoon Tea was the perfect solution to fill that gap in-between meal times. As it still stands today, Afternoon Tea was a fashionable event for ladies to network and enjoy a selection of light refreshments.
Tea rooms were increasingly popular throughout the 19th century, this phenomenon has continued until today where Afternoon Tea is popular amongst all ages and genders, with there being a predominant rise in the trend of themed Afternoon Teas, which is set to only increase in popularity, the more creative and fun they become.
At One Warwick Park Hotel, we love to get involved with the concept of themed teas and so far have launched ‘Art Deco’, ‘Midsummers Night’, to our most current ‘British Summertime’ theme, which embraces everything we love about British Summertime with sticks of rock, mini ice cream cones and even candyfloss thrown in for good measure, alongside all the traditional treats! As we know Afternoon Teas is for all ages, we know cater for little ones with our children’s Afternoon Tea, which is a mini version, all washed down with a scrummy milkshake.
Make sure you keep posted, our next theme is just around the corner!
