Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea In Tunbridge Wells

The British tradition of afternoon tea is thriving in Tunbridge Wells. Served at One Warwick Park Hotel year around as a delicious treat for our customers, our afternoon teas provide a traditional selection of cakes, scones and sandwiches served alongside loose leaf tea. Our hotel serves afternoon tea at our Tunbridge Wells venue throughout the year – perfect for a Mother’s Day or Easter treat.

Created by the 7th Duchess of Bedford, the afternoon tea was created when generally only two meals were served throughout the day. In the afternoon the Duchess had tea and a light snack such as small cakes served as she entertained guests. The tradition quickly become widely popular, with many ladies socialising over their afternoon tea. When the afternoon tea was created, around 1840, tea was slowly becoming a more affordable treat. As the tax on the tea went down it gradually became a more affordable luxury, becoming an extremely popular way for women to socialise during the afternoon.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN AN AFTERNOON TEA?

At One Warwick Park we have created an incredible afternoon tea to serve to our guests at our Tunbridge Wells venue, with a delicious menu of cakes, sandwiches and scones for them to sample. Here are some of the components of our afternoon teas that make them unforgettable:

Cakes

As part of our afternoon tea menu we serve delicately created little bites of dessert to try, with iced choux buns, strawberry pavlova and lemon curd shots beautifully arranged and served for our guests. These sweet treats pair well with our loose leaf tea, and are perfect for our guests to nibble on while they have a chat.

Scones

What afternoon tea in Tunbridge Wells would be complete without a fresh scone served with jam and cream? This delightful bite is an iconic British treat to try. The traditional cream tea – a pot of tea with a scone and jam – is a classic treat across the country.

Tea or coffee

To accompany our afternoon tea, we serve a choice of either loose leaf tea or coffee for our guests. Tea quickly came into vogue, and while loose leaf tea is more traditional, the coffee pairs excellently with our espresso brownie.

Sandwiches

We serve a range of finger sandwiches for our guests, with delicious and savoury fillings – perfect fuel after a long morning of shopping and exploring Tunbridge Wells. Created with care so that they are easy to eat while talking, our lovely little sandwiches should go down a storm in your afternoon tea.

Prosecco or Champagne?

While we serve the classic afternoon tea without any alcoholic accompaniment, you can opt to book either a prosecco afternoon tea or a champagne afternoon tea. These afternoon teas are served with a glass of prosecco or champagne as a tipple to match the lovely cakes and tea served.
